Assembly Passes SB 1524 by 68-3 Vote; Senate Action Expected This Week

CANP is happy to report that the Assembly passed SB 1524 (Hernandez) last night on a 68-3, bipartisan vote. The measure would remove the requirement that NPs have six months of supervised experience before they are allowed to furnish medications to their patients. Many NPs have cited the current requirement as a barrier to employment opportunities – especially for recent graduates – and an obstacle in the path of patients seeking access to quality health care.

The bill will be taken up on the Senate floor later this week to concur in amendments taken in the Assembly. CANP would like to thank all those who contacted their legislators in support of SB 1524.
